Show up for yourself this holiday season.
The holidays are upon us! Thanksgiving is just days away, and Christmas festivities will follow close behind. Do you ever find yourself struggling to relax and enjoy the season? Do you feel rushed and exhausted?
This time of year is supposed to be for making memories with those closest to you, but too often it becomes busy and unenjoyable. Learning to say “no” to upcoming parties will take discipline and require you to know which events are adding value to your family — rather than taking away from the joy of the season.
How can you make time to take care of yourself this holiday season? As your dedicated holistic life mentor, Meru Mentor has some suggestions.
Quality vs. Quantity
When trying to determine how to show up for yourself, think about quality vs. quantity! Which one will help you balance your life better or reach the goals you have set for yourself? Personal goal setting is an essential way to transform your life, but you cannot see progress unless you start making an effort.
Quality.
Our culture runs on “more, more, more”, but what we must come to peace with is that a full schedule will not bring us more joy in life.
You must focus on creating a quality environment for yourself because there will always be an opportunity for quantity. However, you will never be able to reclaim the time you lose by not creating quality moments.
Let me use a Facebook group as an example:
We all get invited to tons of different groups on Facebook. And we accept it without giving it too much thought or possibly because the invite has come from someone we know. We end up with a high quantity of groups. Therefore, we lose the opportunity to have a quality outcome.
Even as a creator of a Facebook group myself, I am not after a large number of people to have in my group. It’s about having quality people who want to grow together and find the ultimate balance in life.
Prioritizing Rest During the Holidays
When you see your schedule filling up, make finding downtime for you and your family a priority.
Focus on being intentional with the events you agree to attend. This will help you prevent cluttering your agenda with information and events that are not adding quality to your life.
Before accepting an invitation, ask yourself, “Does this add value to my family’s holiday season?”
- If yes, keep it on your schedule!
- If not, remove it from your schedule!
You can easily apply this to other areas of your life as well:
- Books
- Business
- Courses
- Freebies
- Belongings
- Food
- Emails
Don’t be afraid to remove anything that is not adding value to your life. Remember you need more quality rather than quantity.
Benefits of Choosing Quality Over Quantity
There are many reasons to choose quality over quantity. Finding what matters most to you, and being able to say “no” when it’s not a personal priority, is a great skill to have.
Here are a few of the several benefits of choosing quality:
- Save Energy, Money, and Time
- Improve Relationships
- Fewer Distractions
- Less Clutter
- Healthier and Happier
