What is more important — time or money?
You’ve heard the saying, “Time is money, and money is time,” but what does that actually mean for you?
Did you know that every choice you make costs you something? Whether you are consciously choosing a quicker way or cheaper option, the reality is you’re still spending time and effort to accomplish your goal.
If you think about it, even free costs us something, maybe even more than if we had just paid. Consider this, for example — finding a free item online. Great! You jump in your car and drive 30 minutes to retrieve this awesome find. Depending on the value of the item though, you may be spending more on gas and time than it is worth. However, maybe a 30-minute drive for a free item is the right choice for your circumstances. Only you can decide. As your holistic personal mentor, Meru Mentor is here to provide you with the guidance necessary to make that decision in all aspects of life.
The Value of Time
Your time is valuable, and that value never changes. While on the other hand, the value of money fluctuates with time and demand.
It’s common to spend your time in ways that appear to save you money, but when you take a step back, is it costing you more than you realize?
If you work for a few hours to clean your house, taking away from time that could have been spent making money, is it saving you anything?
Time spent with immediate family is priceless, but you should also pay attention to the value of time spent with friends, relaxing, reading, or going for a walk — is time being spent wisely? We should be conscious that time is finite and we will never get back the time we spend.
On the other hand, we can always earn more money because money comes and goes. If you spend ten dollars today, you can often earn twenty more tomorrow. Time doesn’t work this way, increasing its value significantly.
What is it Costing You?
Everything cost us something. What you value most is where you will direct your resources, whether that is time or money — both are important.
When you choose to take time to clean your home, that is time you are unable to work to make an income. We cannot ignore real financial needs in our lives. So, how do we balance the two?
Ask yourself these two questions:
- What is this choice costing me?
- Is this worth the cost?
It is important to pause for a moment to make the best choice for you and those in your life.
How to Invest Your Time Wisely
Learning to invest your time wisely will give you the confidence necessary to move forward with many different things in life.
Investing your time properly will mean knowing when to say yes to one good thing while simultaneously saying no to another good thing. You do this by aligning your desires and understanding your priorities.
What are your priorities in your current season of life?
- Family Time
- Money
- A Clean House
- Mental Space
Once you understand this, it will be much easier to know where to spend your resources.
