Most of us, however, probably are hoping to be a little further along by now in reaching our goals but may feel so behind.

How to Reach Your Goals
Please keep in mind that we’re all human, and sometimes our pursuits take longer than we expect them to. Do not feel very discouraged when you haven’t accomplished a goal you set for yourself.
When we approach our goals with the perspective that every new day and every step — big and small — move us a little closer to our end goal, we remove the pressure that could ultimately hold us back. Instead of throwing in the towel at each small failure, we can instead use it to leverage us into action.
Using the Fresh Start Effect to Boost Motivation
The Fresh Start effect suggests that people are more motivated to work toward accomplishing their goals after a temporal landmark, such as the start of a new week or year.
Here are a few temporal landmarks that can represent new beginnings:
- Day, Week, Month, Year
- Birthday
- Deadline
- Holiday
- School Semester
- Calendar Quarter
However, as experts in personal goal setting, Meru Mentor suggests looking at every day being a new day to tackle your goals. If you do what you need to do to reach your goals one day at a time, instead of waiting for new beginnings, you will be ahead of the game compared to most. In the end, you always have a choice and find what works best for you. Just remember, it costs you time if you wait too long.
Keep Moving Towards Your Goals

As the new year approaches, set yourself up for success by creating achievable objectives.
This may look like creating a long-term goal and breaking it down into smaller attainable steps. This will keep you motivated and help you stay on track to accomplishing that larger goal you’ve set for yourself.
Another tip to help you reach your goals is to create a timeframe to review your objectives. Are you on track or do you need to adjust your steps to fit where you’re currently at?
